About Travis Luedke

I lived the majority of my life in a little known farming town dead center of Washington State called Moses Lake.  At a very early age I developed a love of all things macabre, horror-fantasy-sci/fi books and films.

I became an avid reader of Steven King, Dean Koontz, Robert R. McCammon, Peter Straub, Clive Barker, Robert Heinlien, Piers Anthony, and many many more authors.  I read everything I could find from these authors.  They couldn’t publish enough material to keep me going.

I got away from my love of the macabre to pursue the American Dream, a house, kids, cars, stereo equipment, yada yada yada.  No time for reading when your raising bunches of children and focusing on family and career.

Right after 9/11 I made the leap into self employment, working with real estate and other types of creative finance endeavors.  I was happy, more or less, but I had the smores, I wanted something more out of life, something more than the daily grind.  That thirst for more led me to pursue  bigger and better endeavors, and so I began chasing after gold mines.  My quest led me to the borders of Mexico and Arizona, where I lived for several years, developing mining projects in both areas.

My lack of success with gold mines was a text book example of why conventional wisdom considers it unwise to chase after such things, especially when working with investors in third world countries.  The project was a collosal failure, and it cost me many years and sacrifices of which I still feel the pangs today.

But like most difficulties we encounter in life, it was not a complete loss.  I learned much in my trials and tribulations.  In the midst of all this I rediscovered my love of horror, fantasy, the paranormal, and a somewhat new writing category called urban fantasy.   It was when I had hit one of the lowest lows of my life, while reading an urban fantasy novel, that inspiration struck.

II thought to myself, why aren’t there novels that have this, that, and the other thing?  Why is it so hard to find novels with a particular/peculiar blending of genres and elements?  Maybe I should write those novels.

Once the idea hit, it sunk in deep to the core, to a place where I could not remove it without ripping out an integral part of my soul.  I became convinced-obsessed with the idea I could write novels that I would wish to read.  Perhaps that’s a strange idea, perhaps foolish, but either way, I started writing.  I haven’t stopped

If it were up to me (if my wife and children and life did not throw me an intervention throughout the day and night), I would write 16+ hours per day.  Like that catchy little ditty from the Rolling Stones, “If you start me up I never stop.”

I have written six fiction manuscripts, and I have planned another six or seven (including one non-fiction).  It is my sincere hope and desire to entertain and enthrall those who deign to read my works, as I have been entertained and enthralled by the works of my favorite authors.  With a little luck, a lot of work, and some good editing, perhaps I can see this dream come true.

I hope you enjoy my perverse, macabre flights of fancy as much as I enjoyed writing them.
